Procrastinator? Where’s your Admissions Essay?

Proms! Commencement!  High School Graduation!  College!

What are you going to do?  Get a summer job?  Get a permanent job?  Get a career?   Have you weighed your options?  Parents have you weighed yours?    Are you applying at the last minute to your college of choice?  Are you ready for college?  Do you understand what college is all about?

What if you did not get accepted yet?  Are you still working on a last minute Admissions Essay?  Are you frustrated?    Take a deep breath.  Relax.  Write from the heart.  You chose this college for a reason.  What do you know about this college?  How does this school benefit you?  How does your presence benefit the school?  Why should this college choose you?  What makes you stand out from the other candidates?  Who has been influential in your life?  What do you want to study?  Why attend this college if you are undecided?  Do you have a story to tell?    What are your short-term and long-term goals?  What would you think of your essay?   Would you choose you?  Would you say your essay missed the mark?  Would you say it was excellent?  Are you ready to be reviewed?

The Admissions Essay is a determining factor in your acceptance.  This is your formal introduction to the Review Committee.  Respect it and pursue it like it matters.  This may be your only opportunity for admittance to that institution.  Your application is not the only application being considered.  You are not the only candidate who believes they are the right choice.  You are not the only candidate who may stand out from the rest.   You may not be the only 4.0 GPA.  You may not be the only Valedictorian, Salutatorian, Senior Class President, varsity player, head cheerleader, or VIP.  You could be accepted or rejected.  A first impression may be your only impression.  Please ensure your Admissions Essay is well written.  Think about it.  Write it, Review it, and Rewrite it.  Review it.  Revise it again.  Draft it. Do a final spell check.  Check your grammar.  Prepare it for submission.  Submit.

Are you frustrated at the admissions process?  Don’t get frustrated; look at options.  Frustrations lead to anger which may hinder your career path.  Don’t get mad; write it right.  Success is the best revenge.
